Historic country house The Montagu Arms in the New Forest village of Beaulieu is offering a luxury overnight stay with superb seven-course dinner and use of an award-winning Thai spa to celebrate the appointment of its new head chef.
With oak-panelled walls, gleaming parquet floors and crackling log fires, this ivy-clad 17th-century hotel is the perfect bolthole in the heart of the New Forest National Park.
Matthew Whitfield takes over the award-winning Terrace restaurant fresh from the three-Michelin-star Eleven Madison Park in New York – a previous No1 on the World’s Best Restaurant list.
At the Terrace, Matthew has access to carefully-selected suppliers across the New Forest’s coast and countryside, and also harvests the freshest fruit, herbs and vegetables from the hotel’s own kitchen garden. He champions modern British food, creating innovative, light dishes that reflect the natural flavours of seasonal ingredients.
Two lucky guests will enjoy Matthew’s new seven-course tasting menu, and stay in one of the Montagu Arm’s two Hayloft Suites, which offer luxurious modern comforts in a converted 1820s barn. They will also have the use of the leisure facilities at sister hotel Careys Manor’s Thai SenSpa just six miles away, which include a UV-treated swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and gym.
Guests can also explore the beautiful surroundings of the New Forest and the historic village of Beaulieu, which is home to the renowned National Motor Museum and Palace House, home of the Montagu family.
